“We are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion.  DEI is integrated into all aspects of the tripartite mission. We strive to advance the understanding and treatment of psychiatric disorders for all by addressing disparities in access to mental health services, through research, education, and clinical care and ensuring an inclusive, diverse workforce across all levels of faculty, trainees, and staff.” -Eric Lenze, MD and Head of the Department of Psychiatry

Elevating Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) is a top priority at Washington University School of Medicine’s Department of Psychiatry and across our medical school campus, at large. We have several DEI strategic initiatives that we are pushing forward to accomplish this goal.

Vision Statement:

Our Department of Psychiatry at WUSM endeavors to preserve a culture of collaboration, affirmation, and inclusion for all individuals within our department. We are pioneers at the forefront of research, education and clinical care. This is in large part due to our collective belief that innovation and progress in psychiatry thrives by bringing together people who have diverse backgrounds, experiences and areas of expertise.

  • We advocate for equal and equitable access to high quality care and treatment for the most under-represented and under-resourced individuals in our community.
  • We dedicate ourselves to being agents of change especially to dismantle the mental health inequities that exist.
  • We acknowledge that in order to accomplish this bold mission our department must reflect the robust diversity and talent of the community around us and the world at large.
  • We welcome and encourage diversity in our department and we encourage all individuals to consider employment within our department regardless of race, color, ethnicity, age, religion, sex, sexual orientation, ability, gender identity or expression, national origin, veteran status, socio-economic status, genetic information.

Our department is committed to creating an inclusive and equitable environment for our patients, trainees, and colleagues.
