Many of our residents, fellows, and students live and play in the Central West End, the neighborhood just north of the medical campus. With a variety of dining options including 20+ restaurants and bars as well as amenities such as two grocery stores, a movie theater, multiple banks, dry cleaners, salons, gyms, and specialty shops, the CWE is one of the most beautiful and vibrant neighborhoods in St. Louis. Housing is abundant with many charming century-old single and multiple family houses, condos, and apartment buildings. It’s also a great place for visitors, as one of St. Louis’s premiere hotels, the Chase Park Plaza, is located in the CWE, as well as lower-key options including the DoubleTree by Hilton St. Louis Forest Park, which is adjacent to the medical campus.
There’s always something happening in the Central West End. Residents regularly grab lunch or dinner at the on-campus food trucks or at one of the other dozen-plus restaurants serving tacos, pizza, sushi, deli sandwiches, or Indian, Lebanese, or Chinese food that are located within blocks of the medical campus. Residents can always find someone to grab a drink with at Wildflower or Taste or to indulge in cupcakes and coffee at The Cup. Because of the high concentration of restaurants, bars, and cafes in the neighborhood, the CWE is bustling day and night. In addition to providing a multitude of entertainment options, living in the CWE also allows for an easy walk to work at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and provides good public transportation, as the CWE Metrolink stop is the busiest in the area.
More information about the CWE can be found at the Central West End Association website.
