Research Interests

As a clinical investigator associated with the Charles F. and Joanne Knight Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center, my areas of emphasis included the psychopathology of Alzheimer’s dementia and the characterization of presymptomatic and very mild illness.

As the former Vice-chair for Education and Residency Director, I remain interested in both consumer and professional education. I have co-authored two books with Charles F. Zorumski, MD: Demystifying Psychiatry (2010) and Psychiatry and Clinical Neuroscience: A Primer (2011). We also actively co-author the Demystifying Psychiatry blog on the Psychology Today website.

In 2022, I published a history of the Washington University Department of Psychiatry in the context of the history of the field of psychiatry in general.
