We take 2 fellows each academic year but their start dates are 6 months apart. Please see our application page for more information.
No. In fact we see the fellowship as being an excellent mechanism for obtaining the experience and knowledge to be able to sit for and pass the CAQ specialty examination.
We have no requirement of a minimum amount of clinical experience in order to be eligible for our training program. In fact we see our program as being most useful for those who have just recently obtained their advanced practice degree. However, applicants need to be licensed to practice at the APP level in the state of Missouri at least 4 months before the start date so that we have time to complete the privileging process prior to the trainee starting.
While we cannot promise to offer employment to everyone, our goal is to use our training program to train APPs so that they are able to work alongside our physicians in order to provide cutting edge psychiatric care to our complex patients. However, given the expertise of the department and the level to which we aim to train our fellows, one should be able to practice psychiatry in almost any situation.
Our program does not require overnight call. However, trainees on the inpatient service should expect to work 6 days per week.
