1918-1938 Dr. Sidney Schwab headed the Department of Neurology and Psychiatry (a “subdepartment” of the Department of Medicine).
1938-1942Dr. Rioch headed the newly created Department of Neuropsychiatry. Dr. Whitehorn was appointed Professor of Psychiatry and had a leading role in teaching psychiatry.
1942-1963Dr. Edwin Gildea headed the Department for 21 years. In 1955, the Department was renamed the Department of Psychiatry and Neurology.
