Residency Program Staff

Dottie Kinscherf (

Dottie has worked in the office of the psychiatry residency director since 2000 – first with Dr. Rubin and currently with Dr. Farber. Prior to that, she worked in basic science and clinical research settings at Washington University. Dottie is involved in various aspects of the program, including compliance with ACGME and WU GME requirements, recordkeeping involved with ABPN certification for graduates, and communication with other departments where our residents rotate. In her free time, she enjoys gardening, knitting, yoga, and reading.

Nichole Hernandez (

Nichole began her career with Washington University School of Medicine in 2013. In 2015, she joined the Department of Psychiatry as the Coordinator for the Psychiatry Residency Training Program. She brings with her many years of experience in project and administration coordination, having served in a variety of creative and administrative roles. In her current role, Nichole works to support the Residency Training Program by coordinating resident tasks and obligations, office functions for the program, as well as staff services. She also maintains resident's licensure, certification and hospital privileges. She is the main contact for residents and applicants to the program.

Susan Vugteveen (

Susan began working in the Department of Psychiatry as an administrative coordinator for an autism research lab. In 2018, she transitioned to the Psychiatry Residency Training program for which she provides additional administrative support. In her free time, Susan enjoys yoga and meditation, cooking, and spending time with her husband, three kids, and two golden doodles.
