Integrated Nutrition and Child Development: Healthy From The Start
Maureen Black, PhDMaureen Black, Ph.D. is the John A. Scholl MD and Mary Louise Scholl MD Endowed Professor in the Departments of Pediatrics, Medicine, and Epidemiology and Public Health at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, and director of the Growth and Nutrition Clinic, a multidisciplinary clinic for children with poor growth and feeding problems. Dr. Black is a pediatric psychologist who specializes in the prevention of health disparities among young children in low-income families in Maryland and in low- and middle-income countries. Most of her work is community-based related to risks for pediatric underweight/overweight and includes interventions that integrate health/child development. She has been the PI of NIH-funded obesity prevention trials among middle schools, WIC Clinics, and child care centers. She is the Maryland PI of Children’s HealthWatch, a multi-site collaboration that monitors how public policies relate to the health, nutrition, and development of children through age three. She was on the steering committee for the 2016 Lancet Series, Advances in Early Childhood Development: From Science to Scale, and led the first paper.
